Brittani and Kourtni Confront the Water Crisis

(Click the letter image for a larger, more readable view!)

Dear Ethiopian Girlfriends,

Hey what’s up! We’re thinkin about ya cos the gals over at water.org posted up some snaps of you on Facebook. (Why don’t you have your own Facebook page?)

Annnywaaaay…Me and the girls were just chatting and were wondering…what’s the deal with all that freight you’ve got strapped across your backs?

I couldn’t figure it out, Tiffani thought you guys were on your way to class and those totes were your backpacks–styles being different over in Ethiopia and all. Since the weather there looks warm and  you’ve got towels around your waist, I told her you guys were probably on your way to the pool and those must be your float-y things.

So I texted Erin over at water.org, and we just about DIED when she told us that you guys were carrying WATER! When we asked her why you didn’t just didn’t get some out of the fridge, we were FLOORED when she told us that you spend practically all day every day getting water from faraway polluted sources, then have to carry those heavy things all the way home on your backs! (You must be WAY LATE for class!)

So right off we asked Erin for your address so we could UPS some Dasani right over, but Erin told us that wasn’t too practical, given where you live. She had the great idea for us to get in with the “Women Can’t” campaign they have going on to let more people know about the problem. So right then we all  friended it on Facebook and told all our peeps on Twitter. We even decided to skip the mall this weekend and send the bucks along to help out.

So send some NEW pics soon…this time, without that tank on your back!

Love and Hugs, Brittani and Kourtni

h2ohhhhhh! Women Say Water Trumps Sex

Yet another enlightening finding in the study of curious gender differences! A new Cooking Light poll finds that women rank gettin’ some water more important that gettin’ some! Via www.basilandspice.com,

U.S. WOMEN SURVEYED IN COOKING LIGHT POLL SAY DRINKING THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF WATER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HAVING ENOUGH SEX
New York, NY (August 25, 2009) – Drinking the recommended daily amount of water is more important to women than having enough sex, according to a national survey conducted by Cooking Light magazine. When asked what women’s priorities were in terms of their health and well-being, drinking enough water ranked fifth and sex ranked seventh. Over 1,000 women across the country participated in Cooking Light’s “Women’s Wellness Poll” which surveyed their opinions on healthy living, eating and exercise.

In fact, there were six health and wellness activities that finished ahead of sexy number seven in the “Women’s Wellness Poll.”

1. Getting enough sleep
2. Keeping stress level low
3. Finding time to relax
4. Eating healthfully
5. Drinking the recommended amount of water
6. Finding time to exercise
7. Having enough sex

Behind the Shower Curtain: Steamy Secrets!

“BEHIND THE SHOWER CURTAIN” SURVEY: America’s Steamy Secrets Reveal What Men and Women Really Think About in the Shower

Who could resist that headline, Water Pik? We were roped right into this promising press release, purporting to take “a peek at what really goes on behind the bathroom’s closed doors.”  Water Pik, Inc., released the findings of a survey that asked 1,000 Americans how they spend their time in the bathroom, including some not-at-all-surprising differences in male and female shower behavior.

SURVEY SAYS…..
Women
Men
Think about “to do” lists in shower
64%
48%
Average minutes in shower
14
12
Admit to showering with another adult for “intimacy”
55%
66%

Now, I could have told you this without asking 1000 people, but “Women use shower time to contemplate chores, problems and weight. Men spend their shower time thinking about work, sex and day dreams.” So, women spend about 2 minutes longer in the shower, but that’s just because we’re reviewing our long, arduous list of chores! (I’m not sure how men cover sex and work in a brisk 12 minutes!)

Men and women did agree that low water pressure is the No. 1 bathroom pet peeve, and also agreed that they would rather pay bills than clean the shower.

More fabulous shower facts:

25%
People who sing in the shower
89%
Take more showers than baths
50% Moms
28% Dads
Use the shower as a time to escape
53% Moms
27% Dads
Rush out of shower to take care of their family
60%
Turn off water while brushing teeth
46%
Reduce shower time to save water

I for one applaud Water Pik for doing some research that matters! This will allow them to develop useful products to enhance our shower experience. Like, how about a waterproof shower pen tablet, so we gals could jot down all those chores and “to do” lists?

And, now that you know that 25% of us are using the shower spray as a pseudo-microphone, would it be a huge leap to have it function as a real, working mic? That way the entire family could enjoy our wet rendition of “Moon River!”
